Status, perspectives and first scientific results of CTAO LST in La Palma.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is building two arrays of Cherenkov telescopes: one in La Palma, Spain and the other one in Paranal, Chile. The aim of CTAO is to unveil the universe in high energy gamma rays in the energy regime 20 GeV to over 300 TeV and do so as an open access observatory with an expected operation time of 30 years. Three telescope types will form CTAO: the Large Size Telescopes (LSTs), the Medium Size Telescopes (MSTs) and finally the Small Size Telescopes (SSTs).
In this talk I will motivate the technical design of the LSTs and describe the status of the telescope construction and their commissioning. I will also present and discuss early physics results achieved using the first LST in La Palma, which is in commissioning phase from 2018. Finally, I will give a glimpse of the physics in reach once the full CTAO is in operation.
