Tras 6 meses en el LSC, ha finalizado el primer experimento realizado con Sphaeroforma arctica, un organismo unicelular pariente de los animales. El objetivo de este grupo es estudiar el origen de la multicelularidad, y para ello, se ha evaluado el crecimiento y la morfología de cultivos tanto en superficie como en el subterráneo. En las próximas fases, se llevará a cabo el análisis genético de las muestras congeladas para profundizar en nuestros hallazgos. ¡Seguimos avanzando! After 6 months at the LSC, the first experiment with Sphaeroforma arctica, a single-celled organism related to animals, has been completed. The objective of this group is to study the origin of multicellularity, and for this purpose, the growth and morphology of both above and underground cultures have been evaluated. In the next phases, genetic analysis of frozen samples will be carried out to deepen our findings. Pipo Bayo y Beatriz Hernández se reencontraron con los alumnos que participaron en la 1ª Aula Científica del LSC para estudiantes de la ESO en 2023. El encuentro tuvo lugar el 3 de octubre en el IES Elisa y Luis Villamil de Vegadeo (Asturias). Durante la jornada, ofrecieron una charla fascinante sobre el origen de la materia en el Universo y realizaron una actividad interactiva sobre la radiación natural. El objetivo de este workshop es presentar y discutir técnicas y materiales de baja radiactividad imprescindibles para experimentos de eventos raros. Nuestras compañeras Laura Cid y Silvia Borjabad han presentado los últimos desarrollos y resultados de los servicios de "Espectrometría de masas" y "Electroformación de cobre" del LSC. El LSC ha adquirido un tanque con capacidad de 40 toneladas de agua, destinado a experimentos de física a gran escala. Durante los próximos dos años este tanque permanecerá en el CERN (Ginebra, Suiza) como parte del experimento WCTE, un proyecto para testear detectores de nueva generación para Hyper-Kamiokande. Tras este periodo, regresará al LSC para servir como blindaje de agua en futuros experimentos donde, por su tamaño, no sea viable el uso de plomo. The LSC has acquired a tank with a capacity of 40 tons of water, intended for large-scale physics experiments. For the next two years, this tank will remain at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland) as part of the WCTE experiment, a project to test next-generation detectors for Hyper-Kamiokande. El principal objetivo es reunir a los distintos grupos que han desarrollado y desarrollan proyectos de investigación sobre este tema en España, junto con algunos expertos nacionales y europeos. La finalidad es favorecer el intercambio científico y promover futuros proyectos que generen nuevos conocimientos y ofrezcan soluciones que beneficien a toda la sociedad.
