A cleanroom is specially designed room in which the concentration of airbone particles and other parameters (temperature, relative humidity and preasure) are controlled and its construction and use minimize the introduction, generation and retention of these particles.
The level of contamination is specified by the number and size of suspended particles allowed in a volume of air. According to ISO-14644, the designation of the cleanroom class is made on the basis of the number of suspended particles of 0.5 µm size or larger allowed per cubic metre of air. For example, the outdoor environment in a city contains 35,200,000 particles per cubic metre of 0.5 µm or larger, which corresponds to an ISO class 9, while in an ISO 7 and ISO 6 cleanroom the amount of these particles is limited to 352,000 and 35,200, respectively.
The LSC currently has two cleanrooms:
ISO6/ISO7 Cleanroom: 40m2 distributed in one access – changing room (4.5m2), room 1 and room 2. Located in the central corridor of LAB2400.
ISO5/ISO7 Cleanroom: 45,5m2 distributed in access – changing room, flow area and surroundings. Located in Hall A of LAB2400.
